I was watching Fox News (gag!) after work last night in my ongoing effort to hear all points of view. I heard the following stated as fact: "Politically, we are in a business unfriendly environment". Now, to be fair to Fox News (gag!), I have heard similar sentiment, much less often, on CNN, CNBC, and the networks. Now, I'm no economist. And, I'm certainly no genius. But, aren't legitimate journalists supposed to require evidence to back up their stories?
Well, today I looked at raw data (aka-Evidence) that I find puzzling in a business unfriendly political environment......
*Historic, as in highest ever recorded, business profits across the American business spectrum.
*Historic, as in highest ever recorded, cash reserves across the American business spectrum.
*Highest, as in best ever recorded, productivity across the American business spectrum.
*Highest, as in most ever recorded, income levels at the top 2% of American workers (aka-CEO's, top execs, Wall Street Traders, and the "small" business owners that the aforementioned like to hide among when lobbying for further tax relief).
*The stock market run-up to full recovery levels.
*Over a dozen business tax cut bills passed by congress in the past 2 years.
*Unemployment at 9 1/2%, with projections of no lower than 8% through the next 2 years (aka-EMPLOYERS MARKET!)
These pieces of evidence, on top of Bush's $700 billion taxpayer bailout of the banks and Obama's $24 billion taxpayer bailout of the US auto industry, economy-saving and job-saving as they may have been...............Business unfriendly???
As I said, I'm no genius. But, if this is "business unfriendly", just what the hell would "business friendly" look like? Everybody working for minimum wage? No worker protections? No regulation or oversight? Full ownership and control of the media so the corporate ruling class could feed America self-serving bullshit? Oh, wait. We already have that.
Somebody, ANYBODY, please restore my faith in journalism. Present evidence to the contrary. Evidence.
