I remember a time when the great Philadelphia Phillies were absolutely awful. Year after year in last place. Playing in a ramshackle stadium called Connie Mack. Then there came a pitcher. Guy named Jim Bunning. Tough guy, hit a lot of batters. Phillies still didn't win much, but there was this one game in 1964..........Bunning pitching against the Mets. He starts mowing them down. Fielders playing great defense. The innings rolled on. No Met reached first base. The whole city on the edge of it's seat............Third out in the ninth, and Bunning had done it! The first perfect no-hitter in the National League in 64 years!! He never reached those heights again, and it would be over a decade before the Phillies would become a powerhouse and win their first World Series. Bunning retired to his home in Kentucky , took on a new career in politics, and eventually became a US Senator, a job he holds to this day. I'm not quite sure exactly when Bunning lost his freakin' mind. Playing in front of Philadelphia fans can do that to a player G

The guy has some backbone, I'll give him that. He stood up for what he believes in. At some point, the spending has to stop. The deficits are growing to a point now that disaster is looming - every economist is saying it.
Remember that discussion you wanted to have on the economy after Obama had a year in office? You remember, when you predicted that after a year, his policies would begin to have positive effects. Still want to have that debate?

It's not that Bunning stood up for "Pay as you go". It's that he did it after voting AGAINST the "Pay as you go" legislation. And then he mis-applied it to emergency spending that was already budgeted for. It took a little time for his fellow Republicans to explain it to him, but they finally got through. I think he ate a bad cheese-steak sandwitch or something. I absolutely would like to have that debate. Comparing the positive effects of the Bush bank bailouts to the Obama stimulus, for instance. BTW, did you see the stock markets today? The jobs reports? It looks for all the world like Obama has turned the corner on the Bush mess. Naturally, all of this is smoke and mirrors as both "sides" (of the same coin) continue to allow the corporatist rulers to sell out America's middle class behind the scenes. But, if you want to have some fun with that superficial debate, I'm game. It would be just about as relevant as debating who will win the Best Picture Oscar.................... I saw "Avatar" in IMAX and it was awesome. I saw "The Hurt Locker", also, and it was very good, but not in the same league. They'll give it to "The Hurt Locker" to be PC, of course. Where was the outrage when "Saving Private Ryan" lost to "Shakespeare in Love"? That was a travesty. Why try to make up for it now? PC, PC, PC! See? Just about as relevant. ;D G
